Surgical Procedures
We know surgery can be stressful for both pets and owners, but rest easy our vets, nurses and support team go above and beyond to ensure your pet is safe and comfortable throughout surgery.  

• Neutering (Spays & Castrations) - we offer both traditional  spays and laparoscopic spays.  Laparoscopic spays are equivalent to the key-hole surgery humans have.  It's a less invasive form of surgery, with reduced chances of complications, faster recovery and less post-operative discomfort.  (Laparoscopic spays are available to non-registered clients.)

• Dentistry - preventing tooth decay and preventing gum disease is essential for your pets overall wellbeing.  We offer dental cleaning and extractions.

• Other - we offer general surgeries, including growth removals, cherry eye, entroprian and caesarians where natural birth may not be an option. 

• Referrals - for more complex procedures, we can refer you to an appropriate specialist.

In-house Laboratory Testing

Unfortunately, pets can't tell us where it hurts and often a pet can be masking symptoms of their illness.  We first examine your pet and may then recommend blood, urine and/or faecal tests to check their kidney, liver and internal organ functions.  Many of these we can do in-house whilst other more intensive tests are sent away for analysis.

X-Ray & Ultrasound

We've invested in the latest digital X-Ray system to identify many types of illness or injury when your pet is sick or suffered a trauma.  X-rays can detect many ailments including fractures and are very helpful identifying foreign objects that may have been swallowed.  We can send X-ray images to specialist radiologists for expert interpretation with results in one hour if needed!

Ultrasound is a safe, non-invasive method of imaging your pet's internal organs to check whether they are functioning normally.

For many pet owners the cost of living crisis, expensive pet insurance and rocketing veterinary prices, have made accessing care impossible.

We do work with the island charity Friends of the Animals who may be able to help with a contribution towards the cost of veterinary care.  So, if you are genuinely struggling to make ends meet, please give them a call on 01983 522511 (Tuesday to Saturday from 10am) to see if they can help.

Likewise, Cats Protection may be able to help with the cost of neutering and microchipping your cat.

Nikki Hazelgrove has been rescuing cats since 1980 and officially formed Feline Welfare in 1987 as a rescue, rehabilitation and rehoming centre for domestic and feral cats and kittens on the Isle of Wight.  In 2000, Feline Welfare became a registered charity and is totally run by volunteers and solely relies on donations.

For over 30 years, they have offered assistance with neutering and microchipping for low income families.  They have also assisted with veterinary bills where the owner is unable to have their pet treated without financial help.  As well as rehoming, they also provide foster homes for many cats.
